The Perro de Presa Canario is more alive than never
The genesis of the present
Perro de Presa Canario dates from towards the middle decade of the 70 ´s
(century XX).
In 1989 is recognized by the Royal Spanish Canine Society.
In the month of June 2001 the Federation Cynologique the International (FCI)
recognizes the Dogo Canario. New name and new standard, in other words, a new
canine breed enter the scope of official Cynophilia (FCI).
Therefore the Perro de Presa Canario remains outside the officiality.
I did everything what I was able, so that such absurdity was not committed,
and like me other fans and breeder of presas canarios.
From the foundation of the Spanish Club of the Perro de Presa Canario (1982)
their directors developed all a strategy directed to make believe to the public
opinion, and the breeders of presas canaries mainly, that their club was the
origin and the official representation of the Perro de Presa Canario, when the
reality was very different.
The Spanish Club of the Perro de Presa Canario, from its foundation, more than
a club of the breed opened to all the fans and breeders, was a kind of private
enterprise in which only had place those people (basically breeders) who accepted
their directives.
In this club never had place the true Perro de Presa Canario, with its traditional
coats (include the black one and 30% of white).
For the directors of the CEPRC -till the moment of the change of name of their
dog and their club- the eagerness of protagonism and the obsession for sell
dogs has been the fundamental thing.
NAME CHANGE BEFORE NOTARY PUBLIC
In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, day 25 May 2000, before Lucas Raya Medina, Notary
of the Illustrious College of Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) and resident in Santa
Cruz de Tenerife "Is MAKE PUBLIC UNDER NUMBER 2334, THE AGREEMENT ADOPTED
BY UNANIMOUSLY IN ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY CELEBRATED IN THE SOCIAL SEAT BY
THE SPANISH CLUB Of THE PERRO DE PRESA CANARIO, WITH DATE 27 NOVEMBER OF 1998,
IN WHICH WAS ACCORDED TO ADOPT LIKE DENOMINATION OF THEIR DOG, INSTEAD OF PRESA
CANARIO, THE ONE OF DOGO CANARIO".
If we rely on the dates we will realize that this name change occurred one year
and seven months before the FCI recognized the Dogo Canario.
Those of us, that we fought for the Perro de Presa Canario, so that its standard
was respected -in which all the traditional coats are admitted-, by its physical
and psychical health, by its functionality, before those standard and name changes
(within the officiality), after obligate reflection, we have stopped and we
said to ourselves "but if the Perro de Presa Canario is more alive than
never, are the directors of the Spanish Club of the Perro de Presa Canario who
have separate themselves of the Perro de Presa Canario changing of denomination,
before notary, to their club, and the dog that they breed".
But the thing came from time ago, and we denounced it in many occasions.
The Spanish Club did not respect the standard of the breed recognized and accredited
in its day by the Royal Canine Society of Spain: among other things, they did
not accept the black coat, nor the 30% of white, etc.
In fact the directors and followers of the CEPRC were not breeding perro de
presa canario but another thing to which they have ended up calling dogos canarios.
And these dogs and this denomination are foreign to the canarian tradition,
and to us that does not interest for nothing.
Therefore, the thing is very clear, the Perro de Presa Canario stays, I dare
to say, more alive than never. And the Dogo Canario initiates, in official way
(FCI), its walking in year 2001 as a new canarian canine breed; now we will
be see the future that wait him. But that is their matter.
After the exposed thing, is clear that the Perro de Presa Canario follows its
natural track - the one that without a doubt belong to him-, and us, the Cyber
Association for the Perro de Presa Canario like breeders of Perro de Presa Canario
(that not of Dogo Canario) we leave the officiality -that till 1998 was of the
Perro de Presa Canario in the Royal Canine Society of Spain, from that date
not anymore-, to continue breeding the genuine Perro de Presa Canario, with
its own standard, etc., etc.
I repeat, THE PERRO DE PRESA CANARIO, IS THE TRADITIONAL BREED, THE GENUINE
ONE, OF THE CANARY ISLANDS, and the Dogo Canario is another dog that we will
see if it survives to the strikes of the time.
